The estate of a former middle college instructor has supplied a $1 million donation to the Columbia General public Faculties Basis. The announcement was built Wednesday.
Kathryn McLeod was a bodily training teacher for 24 years at Jefferson and West junior higher schools. McLeod, who was recognized as “Kay,” died Sept. 26, 2019, at the age of 92.
This is the largest donation the basis has acquired in its history, stated Cindy Mustard, president of the foundation’s board of directors.
The dollars will be utilised to supply grants to college students and academics, and there are programs to produce scholarships in McLeod’s memory.
“We are so exceptionally appreciative of Kay and her estate for their generosity with the enormous donation,” Mustard explained in a organized assertion.
“This present will allow the foundation to proceed its mission of supporting pupils in a meaningful way that will pay back tribute to Kay’s commitment to instruction.”
The Columbia Community Faculty Foundation has been a personal, not-for-revenue firm led by neighborhood volunteers for 25 years, according to its internet site. It is devoted to enhancing general public training by funding.

McLeod and her partner, James, commenced their educating careers with Columbia Community Universities in 1948. She taught at universities in the system right until 1972, when the pair moved to El Paso.
She continued her instructing job in Texas until finally 2001, retiring at age 74.
