ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – At a heated meeting of the Bedford County College Board Thursday night time, users turned down guidelines centering on COVID-19 mitigation initiatives and transgender pupils.
The board thought of two options for COVID-19 strategies, which include next Virginia Section of Health and Virginia Division of Instruction suggestions that incorporate masks for all pupils, staff and lecturers. The other coverage offered was a tiered strategy that would seem at the Department of Wellbeing dashboards to watch the seven-day scenario rely and emphasis on the selection of circumstances per 100,000.
Throughout general public comment, many mom and dad expressed they think masks are the option of the mothers and fathers, not of university officers.
In a vote, the board turned down the mitigation proposals, and went with masks getting up to the dad and mom of students. Masks are nevertheless demanded on school buses, for each federal laws.
The board also rejected proposed plans for transgender college student coverage, and opted to adhere with the latest policy for now. The board will look for legal thoughts on the subsequent phase.
Before, the alternative presented was for colleges to adhere to the Virginia Department of Education’s coverage, with one-use bathrooms accessible to all pupils. The proposal would not need learners to dress out for fitness center, only that they wear acceptable shoes.
