Scots TikTok mum’s homeschooling video has parents in stitches

A Scots mum has gone viral after posting a hilarious video on how to deal with homeschooling.

Ayrshire mum Carmen Thomson has taken to TikTok for some light relief during homeschooling – and the results are hilarious.

The 24-year-old lives in Irvine with partner Fraser Mulholland, their son Mason, four, and her eight-year-old niece Brooke.

After Nicola Sturgeon announced that all schools would close across Scotland as part of a national lockdown, most parents across the country have been forced to return to homeschooling their children.

In the video Carmen can be seen ‘teaching’ Brooke about colours where she says “First up is colours, do you all know about your colours boys and girls?”

The camera then pans to Brooke who can be seen unloading a laundry basket while Carmen says: “That’s it class, separate the darks from the whites”.

During the funny clip Brooke is filmed washing dishes while Carmen teaches her home economics.

While all parents know homeschooling can be stressful, Carmen says she just made the video because she tries to find ways to make them smile every day.

She said: “I just do daft things to make this horrible situation a wee bit more light hearted.

“I feel like last time we were all on the ball and had our routines, charts etc, and it was more clear at the beginning about how things were going to go.

“But I feel this time around personally it’s getting more and more difficult to find the motivation. Not only the adults but the kids themselves are all a bit deflated with it all now and just want back to normality.”

Carmen’s post has already gained more than 20,000 views and almost 500 shares.

She added: “I’ve always been known as the class clown and the one giving folk a wee laugh. It has more than 20,000 views which is just madness. I can’t believe it.”
